In a nutshell: A comparative analysis of long-term trends of data related to BMI measurement from published and unpublished health examination surveys and epidemiological studies in 199 countries and territories between 1980 and 2008. The analysis found that mean BMI has increased since 1980 and that interventions and policies that may curb or reverse this trend are needed in most countries.
