In a nutshell: This article looks at a new report published by the US Institute of Medicine which states that excess weight in infancy must be addressed to avoid problems later in life. The report makes recommendations for feeding and weaning of infants, regulation of daycare sleeping arrangements and improved opportunities for physical activity for all children, thus providing a multidimensional approach to combatting childhood obesity.
