In a nutshell: This RCT compared weight loss in patients given standard treatment with those who had been referred to a commercial community provider, namely Weight Watchers.  The findings suggest that referral to such community weight loss programmes which provide regular weighing, dietary and exercise advice, as well as group support can result in patients losing significantly more weight over a 12 month period.
